The role of the Department of Clinical Research DCR is to provide its 45 research groups with optimal infrastructure and scientific support. The vast majority (41) of these groups are from clinics of the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital. The remainders (4) are internal DCR groups, who are involved in the scientific support and coordination of equipment and infrastructure on a daily basis. Equally important, the DCR is responsible for operating Technology and Animal Core Facilities. It also hosts the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Bern. Furthermore, the groups of the department are supported by central services responsible for administration, informatics, technical support and bioinformatics.
The DCR Directorate, which comprises the Director and Managing Director, is supported by a Facility Manager position. The Board of Trustees (Kuratorium) is, besides overseeing DCR strategy, involved in the decision-making process for resource distribution to the DCR groups. An External Advisory Board evaluates the overall strategies and operation of the DCR.
